Education as a factor contributing to the further self-employment and self-development of girls

Today, the PO "ASTI" in cooperation with the Committee for Women and Family Affairs of the city of Khujand organized a meeting with population of the Sodirkhon Khofiz mahalla, Khujand.
The meeting was devoted to the following topic: "Education as a factor contributing to the further self-employment and self-development of girls." Employees of the Women's Resource Center talked about the importance of preventing violence against women and girls, learned the opinions and visions of the meeting participants about the causes of this phenomenon. Particular attention was paid to the consequences of domestic violence, which has such a detrimental effect on the physical and mental state of both women and their children.
It was emphasized that investing in girls' education is critical to the development of society as a whole and is a cornerstone of their empowerment, role and involvement in society.
Despite the fact that secondary education is free in Tajikistan, more girls do not attend school than boys: only 64% of girls move from lower secondary school to senior, compared with 86% of boys.
The scale of higher professional education in the country is relatively low: the coverage of higher education is about 18% of the population of the corresponding age, which is 2.5 times lower than in the developing countries of Europe and Central Asia.
During the conversation, the participants concluded that for the empowerment of women and the prevention of violence against them, it is very important to provide girls with access to secondary and higher education, to obtain professional skills and to self-development.
