Mainstreaming of Youth Policy Against Radicalism

Within the framework of the program of European Commission from December 2010 launched new project “Mainstreaming of Youth Policy Against Radicalism” (MYPAR).

The project will be implemented in Sughd region of Tajikistan during 18 months.

The implementation of the project will carry out international independent peacebuilding organization with consultative status at the UN - International Alert and the Association of Scientific and Technical Intelligentsia of Tajikistan (ASTI). The project MYPAR is funded by the European Commission.

Overall objective of the project is to bridge societal divides and strengthen the role of civil society and local government in the peaceful conciliation of group interests, promotion of human rights and facilitation of participatory policy processes.

The project will contribute to increased religious pluralism and human rights awareness in order to reduce the spread of radicalism among young people in two target districts of Sughd region.

  • B.Gafurov (smt Gafurov, Unji and Kostakoz jamoats)
  • Asht (Shaydon, Pangaz, Kamyshkurgan jamoats).

Activities are structured into three phases:

Phase 1: Youth program development and implementation.

  • Conduction of regional and district meeting on development of youth programs
  • Conduction of activities in six pilot communities

Phase 2: Lessons learned and advocacy.

  • Lesson sharing seminars at all levels
  • Presentation of recommendations to the Policy WG working on the strategy development

Phase 3: Mainstreaming of antiradicalism in regional plan of youth policies:

  • Working meeting on youth policy and strategic planning
  • Meetings on streamlining antiradicalism
  • Conference on the role of civil society in development of policy on conflict generating issues

The project will be implemented in close cooperation with:

  • The Department of youth, sport and tourism affairs of Sughd region,
  • The Department of youth, sport and tourism affairs of target districts,
  • Local authorities
  • Students of secondary schools and madrasah
  • Religious leaders
  • Community leaders
  • NGOs working on youth issues
  • Other project stakeholders

Expected results of the project:

  1. Increased engagement of at least 120 secular and religious youth (at least 40% of whom females) in informal education and dialogue activities promoting human rights.
  2. Local capacity to formulate policy on conflict-generating issues strengthened and evidence-based policy on the prevention of radicalism among youth developed
  3. Antiradicalism issues mainstreamed in the Sughd Region Youth Social Development Program.

Memorandums of cooperation

In the framework of the project “Peace begins with us” which is implementing by PO ASTI under the support of UNICEF, in the 2nd of October in the conference hall of Hukumat of Isfara city and in the 6th of October in the conference hall of Gafurov city were held the district meeting with participating representatives of Executive organs of state authority of Isfara city and B.Gafurov district, Department of youth affairs, sports and tourism of Isfara city and B.Gafurov district, Department of minor affairs DMIA of Isfara city and B.Gafurov district, Department of Migration affairs and the employment center of population, representative of Jamoats and Mahalla committees, and also local Mass media.
