RURAL YOUTH IMPLEMENT JOINT SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROJECTS

 

Tajikistan. On January 19, 2017 in the sanatorium “Bahoriston”, which is situated near Khujand city a five-day cross-border youth camp has started, which involved about 50 young people aged from 18 to 35 years from several border villages of Leilek district of Kyrgyzstan and Bobojon Gafurov district of Tajikistan along the Kyrgyz and Tajik state border.

In this event, which will last until January 23, the participants of the camp with the assistance of consultants will discuss the possibilities of social and economic cooperation between the youth of border villages and develop joint plans for 2017 for the development of this cooperation. There will also be educational programs aimed at improving and strengthening good neighborly relations between the youth of the border.

In December 2016 the same camp was held in Osh city of Kyrgyzstan. More than 80 young people from border villages of Isfara town in Tajikistan and Batken district in Kyrgyzstan developed 10 similar joint plans, the practical implementation of which begins in January of this year.

Until the end of 2017 it is scheduled to conduct two more such cross-border camps in both countries. This will allow during the year to involve about 1,200 local young people from border villages in the socio-economic events aimed at development of cooperation between them. Particular attention is paid to the involvement of women in these processes.

 

The purpose of events – to strengthen good-neighborliness between several border communities of Sughd region of Tajikistan and Batken region of Kyrgyzstan.

Events will take place under the motto “Peaceful neighbours are the good friends” . These events initiated and supported by UNDP Tajikistan and UNDP Kyrgyzstan in the framework of the project “Strengthening of cooperation between the youth of border communities of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.”

Camps will be conducted by: Association of scientific - technical intelligentsia of Tajikistan and Foundation for Tolerance International in Kyrgyzstan under the project “Cross border cooperation with the aim of providing peace and sustainable development”.
