Social institutions and the development of rural communities of Tajikistan (2006)

Social institutions or institutions or people is a new direction, which presents one of the important characteristics of the country's transition to the development process.

Therefore we examined as the most vital aspect such issues as determining the character and extent of the influence of social institutions on the development of rural communities.

Our study revealed that there was a significant positive impact on the development of rural communities created by the institutions. This was made possible through the timely and adequate response from all the major team players - donors, NGOs, local authorities, community members themselves – to the process of formation of social institutions in accordance with existing local features.

Thus, the purpose of our study was:

- Identifying the character and extent of influence created by social institutions on the development of rural communities in accordance with local regional context and finding ways to better their performance for the improvement of rural residents’ lives.

Our research has shown that the social institutions as the islands of the new vision and understanding of the processes occurring in the life of every member of the community will be able to transfer many of his countrymen the necessary knowledge and skills that enable them to better adapt to market conditions, increase the well-being of their families and understand that the improvement of life depends largely on them personally.

Still there is very much to do both for social institutions, and other associations of civil sector. But life goes forward, and the efforts of all concerned sides - the members of the rural communities themselves, international donors and representatives of government agencies - are aimed at improving the lives of citizens of Tajikistan.
